What a badge means

A badge says where a firm placed in one AdvisorIQ ranking: the rank band, the name of the ranking, the area it covers, and the year. A firm that is 7th in the country for the largest ranking gets a Top 10 badge for that ranking.

The bands are Top 10, Top 25, Top 50 and Top 100 for national rankings, and Top 10 for a state. A firm can earn several badges at once, for example one for its national place and one for its state.

Only independent wealth management RIAs are ranked, the firms in the main lists of the directory. A badge is not an endorsement, a recommendation, or a judgment of a firm's advice or service. It reports a position in a list built from what firms file on Form ADV. If a firm uses a badge in advertising, its compliance team should review it first: the SEC's Marketing Rule sets conditions for third-party rankings.

The rankings with badges

A firm earns a badge for each of these rankings where it is in the national top 100 or its state's top 10.

How the rankings are computed

Every ranking comes from what firms report on Form ADV to the SEC and to state regulators, rebuilt each month. Each ranking page says how it counts, who is left out, and how ties are handled. Reported change in assets includes market movement, net new assets and acquisitions, so it is not organic growth. The full definitions are in the methodology.

Firms cannot pay for a place in a ranking or for a badge.

Badges are free

There is no charge to use a badge you have earned, and no sign-up. Please keep the link on the badge, so visitors can see how the ranking is built.

How to use a badge

  1. Find your firm below, or go straight to /ria/badges/ followed by your CRD number and a slash. A firm with badges has a Badges line on its directory page.
  2. Copy the HTML under the badge you want and paste it into your site's page where the badge should appear. It is a picture linked to the ranking, so visitors can see how the ranking works.
  3. Leave the link and the picture as they are. The picture is drawn fresh from the latest ranking, so it shows the current band and year.
  4. Check back after each monthly update. A badge's picture stops loading when the firm is no longer in that ranking's national top 100 or state top 10, so remove it then.
